For the last two years we have been busy fund-raising towards a sensory garden that will be created within a derelict area of the gardens.
Work will start by preparing the ground this autumn ready for the hard graft, hopefully a lot of the jobs will be done by a hands on volunteer workforce.
Excitedly, we will be working alongside Michelle Brown, garden design lecturer at Kingston Maurward college, and her students. Designing and creating our sensory garden will become part of their on-going course. At present they are busy working on a garden for this years Chelsea Flower show.
Here is how you good folk can come into play in so many ways.
- We are looking for people to sign up to a volunteer workforce, there will be a variety of jobs to be done, more of which will be posted later as we finalise garden designs.
- We will be looking for local businesses to support us by either donating goods or services, or even a few volunteer hours from your workforce. (Great for team building!)
- We are crowdfunding on our Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/helpbuildoursensorygarden?utm_term=gqg49Vxgd so if you can spare a couple of pounds brilliant, if not, you can still help us by spreading the word.
- Pop along to one of our events, say hi, ask questions, even have a go on a game, it all puts pennies in our pot and gives us encouragement.
Our target for this project is £20,000 and so far we have managed to raise £14,000 of that by a variety of means, events held in the gardens, applying for grants, donations given by wonderful individuals and local companies.
We are now on our last push to raise the remaining £6,000, so why not become a part in the creation of Weymouth’s new sensory garden, something to be proud of.
